Free taster of Sygic Aura 3D navigation for iPhone on iTunes App Store

I just received this news from Sygic regarding Sygic Aura Lite, which enables prospective customers to make themselves acquainted with Sygic Aura for free. There is no need to be in Paris to try out Sygic Aura Lite at all. With localization services (GPS module) switched off in this application, the real GPS navigation is disabled. Nevertheless, the users anywhere in the world can get a taste of all functions & features, as well as get familiar with the operation and options of the application before they decide to buy a paid version.

Check out this very nice looking them from Xda-developer Jedipottsy , the theme is based around the Tolken icon's (http://brsev.deviantart.com/art/Token-128429570) with elements from Ubuntu 10.04 and other Linux themes.

Google add motion to Gesture search

Google has had an Android app from their Labs that lets you search by writing out characters on the touchscreen of your device. Today they announced a new version, Gesture Search 1.2, which includes a new motion gesture. By doing a “double flip”, or flipping your phone away and then back, you can start Gesture Search at any time.

The Double Flip gesture recognizer uses both the 3-axis accelerometer and the 3-axis magnetometer in the phone. There are many factors affecting if a Double Flip can be successfully triggered. But the simple best practice to trigger a Double Flip is to:

•keep the phone more horizontal and less vertical,
•keep the phone pointing away from the magnetic poles,
•and rotate along the phone’s long axis smoothly (not too fast).

The apple site is now live for folk to claim their free bumper or case, and it is is pretty straightforward.

Follow these steps to apply for a Bumper or case.

Download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store.
Launch the app on your iPhone 4 and sign in using your iTunes Store account or Apple ID.
Select your Bumper or case.

For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010.

The same page also explains how you will get a refund for a previously purchased a bumper.

BBC News iPhone and iPad app to launch in UK

Finally the BBC have seen sense and will be making an app that was available outside the UK available inside the UK!

A BBC News app for the iPhone and iPad will be available in the UK from late afternoon on 23 July, the BBC has announced.

The free-to-download apps for Apple products were originally due to be made available in April 2010.

The UK launch was delayed while the BBC Trust, the corporation's governing body, assessed the proposals and their impact on the rest of the industry.

Apps for other devices such as Android phones will launch later in the year. Similar apps for BBC Sport and iPlayer will also be coming soon

Faster dialing with Google Voice on Android and Blackberry devices

Yesterday Google announced that they have launched "an enhancement to the Google Voice mobile app on Android and Blackberry phones, which makes placing calls much faster. We call this feature “direct access numbers.” Here’s how it works:

Until today, the Google Voice app had to make a request to the Google Voice server every time you wanted to make a call to send us the phone number you wanted to dial. Then the call would be connected via a Google Voice access number. With direct access numbers, we assign a unique phone number to every person you call. This means that we no longer need to use your data network to access the server each time you make a call, so calls will be placed much faster.

The updated Android app is available from Android Market starting today. For Blackberry users, you can download the app by visiting http://m.google.com/voice from your mobile device. You will need a valid Google Voice account to use the app, and at this time, Google Voice is available in the US only"
